There are undoubtedly thousands of watering holes to belly-up to in this great state. This page has been created to help you navigate through a few of them. These are based on actual experience and nothing more, and are most certainly biased. Although advertising is allowed on this site, please know that reviews and opinions will not be bought or swayed. If you have a decent establishment offering good food and quality service, then you should have no reservations about someone posting an honest review.
Places change from day to day, month to month, and year to year; please don't hold these words as gospel, and if you disagree with our comments, drop us a line (or preferably, keep it to yourself). We encourage everyone to explore as many small town businesses as possible. They are a dying breed and a keyhole to our past. Help support small business and our great nation!

Lancaster County:
915 Cafe

915 N Plum St, Lancaster
Not many better places to watch a game, They have TVs freakin' everywhere. And I've never seen the ladies room, but the men's is one of the better one's around. I've never had their wings, but if the crowd is any indication they must be pretty good. The 915 lacks character, but that doesn't seem to affect the loyal sports crowd.
ABG (American Bar & Grill)

1081 N Plum St, Lancaster
The A-BaG is a great all-around bar with very good food. While maybe not the Yuengs & Wings place it once was, it still packs them in on a regular basis. They seem to be getting back to basics after a recent attenpt to get classy. We don't need classy, we need the dank Moe! Always excellent service and a nice selection of tappers.
Adamstown Transfer Company

26 Willow St, Adamstown
The ATC is what everything that a bar should be. Welcoming, with great service, good food, a caring owner, and lots of good old beer cans and signs to look at. They have peanuts to throw on the floor, a guitar for all to play (they didn't even kick me off of it), and a suicide sauce that will punch you in the privates! One of our new favorites - for sure!
Alley Kat Inc.

30 W Lemon St, Lancaster
Alley Kat Inc. is one of the better downtown bars. With best pizza in town (an age-old and famous Lancaster recipe), great apps and sandwiches, a good beer selection, and friendly staff it's hard to find much better. Sunday's special: Dinner For Two is a fantastic deal for you a special friend. The trendy decor makes this a great date spot, and the proximity to the Chameleon Club and Clipper Stadium make it a great place to meet up for pre or post activities.
Annie Bailey's

28 E King St, Lancaster
As one of Lancaster's newest establishments, Annie Bailey's really brings a big city feel to our small town. The architecture itself is worth a visit. A bit pricey and limited food selection (I guess they have to pay for all that stone somewhere), but a great assortment of draught beer and premium scotches.
Barney's Grill at Overlook

2099 Fruitville Pike, Lancaster
Barney's is located on a maze of a road in the Overlook Campus between Fruitville and Lititz Pike (enter from Fruitville if you can) and serves a decent variety of food and libations. There's no bar to belly-up to, and the atmosphere is a little too sterile, but it's still as good of a 19th hole as you could ask for.
The Belvedere Inn/Crazy Shirley's

402 North Queen St, Lancaster
The Belvedere is easily one of Lancaster's most prestigious restaurants and hosts a really cool jazz bar, Crazy Shirley's upstairs. Chic interior with cool low slung lounge chairs, but as trendy as this place is, they still won't turn up their nose if you order an Irish Car Bomb. They also have a very cool bar downstairs for pre-dinner drinks or just drowning your sorrows among good company. A definite favorite of those with alternative lifestyles, but welcoming to all.
Black Knight Tavern & Grill

335 Main St, Landisville
This place used to be called Gatby's, and was much better when it was. I ordered a bowl of soup and bit into a chunk of wet black pepper the size of a golf ball! The waitress didn't seem to care and still charged me for it! Aside from that, teh overall service sucked, flies flew everywhere and the rest of our food was lousy as well. I hear their pizzas are pretty good, but I'll leave that up to you, as I won't be returning.
The Brasserie

1679 Lincoln Hwy E, Lancaster
The Brasserie used to have a little bit going for it, but now it's just a big new building with little to no character. Their food has always been decent, I can't imagine that has changed. Their patio doesn't use their regular menu and leaves a lot to be desired. Too bad it's one of the only bars out on that end of town.
Brendee's Cafe

449 W Lemon St, Lancaster
If you can fight your way past the regulars for a spot at the bar, you'll find a nice selection of beers as well as Scotch and Irish whisky. Brendee's offers a ton of food choices, all of which look pretty good. Service is adequate, but it's obvious that the "lifers" get preferential treatment. Still it's a good little spot to drop a few tears in your beer if you're in the West End of the city.
The Brickyard

415 N Prince St, Lancaster
A big old warehouse bar/club with TVs all over, four or five pool tables (with heavily damaged felt and cues), and one truly giant screen TV. There is a small bar in the back for non-smokers as well. While the food is not stellar, the atmosphere is certainly conducive for drinking. A good spot for watching games and rifling back shots, but on the weekends their clientele seems to spend the majority of their free time text messaging and perfectly messing their hair.
Bubba's Green Briar Cafe

47 W New St, Lancaster
The bartenders are always friendly and attentive, but this just isn't the type of place that you want to eat at. It's a shot and beer joint with a great location for pre-game Barnstormers activities. Actual quote from barkeep to incoming patron: "I hope you didn't get my wife pregnant today!". Too bad you can't bottle that! This place is currently for sale and with a little TLC could be a gold-mine.
Bube's Brewery

102 N Market St, Mt Joy
Bube's is probably one of the coolest buildings in the county and has character to spare. Unfortunately, they always seem to have "just run out" of all of their own beers, and their food is only OK. I don't mind paying a little extra for the ambiance of the place, but give me a decent meal for it, and if you're a brewery brew! Still, it's a great place to take visitors, vampires and vikings. Any one of which should thoroughly enjoy the experience. They also sell home-brew supplies and ingredients, which is nice.
Bully's Restaurant & Pub

647 Union Street, Columbia
Bully's is a NON-SMOKING establishment. For some that may be a plus, for others a minus - either way, it presents a nice alternative. If you're looking for a place to party all night this might not be the place for you. If you feel like eating a good meal and drinking good beer, but don't feel like smelling like you have an ashtray in your pocket, Bully's may be the place for you.
Cafe Chuckles

1335 Fruitville Pike , Lancaster
The quirky parking lot is just a hint of the layout within. One step down here, two up there, a ramp here, nook there, cranny here. The layout of Chuckles is what makes this place most interesting and really helps create a coziness no matter where you choose to sit. Small, but nice little bar area, but if you count all of the booths and high-tops near by it could be fairly large. Again, it's juts kinda quirky. They do have good food for good prices and Golden Tee in the corner.
Carlos & Charlie's

2309 Columbia Ave, Lancaster
Semi-Mexican theme, known for their wings. Prices seem a bit high for Mexican food (and smallish portions), but I do recall the wings being pretty good. They also have really good weekday drink specials.
Carr's Restaurant

50 W Grant St, Lancaster
Carr's is another of Lancaster's best upscale dining experiences, they offer a charming little bar and outdoor dining next to Central Market. Their food is among the best possible and their wine cellar should prove worthy of even the most discerning palates.
The Cat's Meow

215 S Charlotte St, Manheim
The Cat's Meow is the bee's knees when it comes to bars in Manheim. They offer a nice little bar with free popcorn and an old clawfoot tub for a speedrack. The CM also has a great patio, upper outdoor balcony and non-smoking dining room. In short, they have something for everyone. And great food to boot!
Chameleon Club

223 N Water St, Lancaster
Lancaster should consider itself very fortunate to host such a great musical venue. The Chameleon brings in a wide variety of acts, from hot up-and-comers to cool old-timers, and everything in between. The Lizard Lounge is as rock and roll as Lancaster gets, and the Tiki Bar brings a big-city feel to the outdoors. Keep an eye on their schedule, you're sure to find something to your liking.
Chancey's Pub

6049 Main St, Lancaster
A favorite spot of the Manhiem Township rich and famous, but ironically their commitment to quality is what lacks the most. Bartenders are unfriendly and food is simply average. I tried this place several times in hopes that things would change for the better - they did not.
Character's Pub

38 N Christian St, Lancaster
The gentlemen that brought Molly's Pub to it's glory, now bring us Character's Pub. An upscale "Pub" with excellent food (all be it limited choices). this place makes it's niche somewhere between fine dining and an upscale bar. It's like a martini bar that serves great food and doesn't turn it's nose up at you when you order a beer. Nice little patio, overlooking a parking lot.
Cherry's Back Alley Bar

320 N Cherry St, Lancaster
R.I.P. Another one bites the dust, as this is now an Elks club.
Conestoga Restaurant & Bar

1501 E King St, Lancaster
The Conestoga isn't bad if the patio is open. Great view of the 'Stoga, unfortunately it's also next to a very busy 462. Downstairs is a dark, dingy dance club style basement bar. When I was there it was pretty empty, with the exception of some of the shadiest dudes I've ever seen.
The Cove

680 Millcross Rd, Lancaster
The Cove is one of Lancaster's newer eateries, and also boasts the best view of the Conestoga. They have an awesome patio and USED to have outstanding food. Open barely a year, they have already changed management, chefs and most servers. Prices have remained the same, but the food and service no longer equate. If things have turned around as of late, someone please let me know!
Courtside Lounge/Marion Courtroom

37 E Orange St, Lancaster/7 Marion Ct, Lancaster
Good wings and good assortment of bar games. Decent prices on the court side, the Marion side is a bit more uppity, but a decent place to get a prime rib. Sleepy and quaint in the winter, and a Girls Gone Wild video all summer!
Dirty Ol' Tavern/Distelfink Inn

917 S Prince St, Lancaster
Another Conestoga waterside hole offering cold beer plus good horsey sauce and chips. They sometimes have some crock-pot type sandwiches, aside from that it's microwave pizza and hot pockets. Big biker hang out, and although not an overly friendly place, not overly intimidating either. This place is DUI prone, so please be careful.
Doc Holliday's

931 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster
Doc's is a semi-chain restaurant/bar located inside of the F&M student union building. Always busy little bar with a pool table and good daily specials.
Dolly's Inn

875 E Main St, Ephrata
The epitome of a roadside juke joint. Good music box with lots of classic rock, attentive bartender, and a "classic dive bar" feel. Little quirks like a chair on the ceiling create nice conversation points, and when that fails they have a pool table. Their only kitchen is a microwave behind the bar, so don't go here hungry.
Downtown Lounge Inc.

734 Cumberland St, Lebanon
OK, so it's not Lancaster County, but either way The Lounge is a great spot for just about anything relating to drinking and eating. Very cool/classic bar front with lots of high-top tables to dine at, and a great pool/game room in the back. The food is excellent and everything is very well priced. No place better in Lebanon.
Dutchmaid Motel

222 N Reading Rd, Ephrata
The Dutchmaid is a dive bar through and through, but apparently in the summer they close the indoor bar and have a nice big deck outside. It's a safe bet that few patrons would complain of our bartender in a tank top and daisy dukes. Off-season this place is build for hard-core drinkers telling spirited tales of DUI's and bad jokes. They have an American dartboard and surprisingly good looking food, so all-in-all there are far worse places to be.
El Serrano Restaurante

2151 Columbia Ave, Lancaster
The ever-expanding El Serrano brings Peruvian cuisine to Lancaster in a warm and welcoming mansion of a restaurant. They have a nice little bar with a rotating variety of local bands, good food and a great atmosphere. A bit pricey, but a great place for a date.
Fiorentino's Italian Restaurant & Bar

1411 Columbia Ave, Lancaster
Fiorentino's has two locations. The Columbia Ave location is a clean and friendly place to go for some good pizza pie (or any number of other Italian delights) and a few drinks. Always a diverse crowd, and always a good meal a decent price. Good daily specials - I suspect you won't be disappointed.
Fiorentino's Italian Restaurant & Bar

500 Airport Rd, Lititz
This restaurant is located inside the Lancaster Airport, and with the new movie theater up there I'm sure they are seeing a lot of date-night action. Unfortunately, neither the food nor atmosphere live up to the Columbia Ave. standard.
Fulton Bar

637 N Plum St, Lancaster
The Fulton has depreciated into a sad state of affairs in recent months. The food is lousy, the service is horrible, and kitchen staff is comprised of some of the dirtiest people our staff has ever seen. This used to be a historical staple of Lancaster, now it's just an example of what not to do. I really wish it wasn't true, and if it's not - please let us know.
Gibraltar

931 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster
Located on the F&M campus, Gibraltar is as pretentious as Lancaster gets. That may not be a bad thing depending on your mood, but something about the location and the interior just doesn't mix well for me. The Aqua Bar is tastefully decorated, but also comes off as a little too sterile. That being said, their food is excellent - think Iron Chef meets Lancaster, PA.
Grady David's

4690 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook
Grady David's is the most complete bar and restaurant establishment in the area (OK, so technically it's Chester County - but close enough right?). They truly have everything. From a large sports bar with lots of games, to an upscale, but not too upscale restaurant, to a more intimate martini/scotch bar. If you can find Honey Brook, you are certain to find something to suit your mood at GD's!
Hall's Cafe

834 N Plum St, Lancaster
Great place to get away from the typical bar crowds. A nice place to relax, play some shuffleboard bowling or American darts, and talk without yelling over the jukebox. Good prices on beer, excellent homemade food, nice people and always friendly and professional bartenders.
Haydn Zug's

1987 State St, Easte Peterburg
Haydn Zug's is a charming, old-world dining experience. Fantastic wine selection, excellent beer on tap and some of the best filets around. A bit pretentious and priced accordingly, but not likely to disappoint. Overly complicated menu makes things more difficult than they have to be, and their desserts leave something to be desired, but overall this placed still gets a rating of: Excellent.
Helen's Corner Bar

131 W Main St, Leola
Nothing bad to say, nothing good to say. Typical roadside, slightly redneck (not that there's anything wrong with that) bar.
Hildy's Tavern

448 W Frederick St, Lancaster
Depending on the time of day/year this place is overrun by F&M kids or Lancaster's tragically hip. Always crowded, smokey and loud. The definition of a "last bar of the night" establishment. I don't think they serve food, and I know I don't want it if they do. Bartender attitude comes free of charge!
Hill Top Inn

415 E Main St, Ephrata
Due to the shear size of the actual bar (seats about 8), I'd have to label it more of a restaurant. The seafood smelled excellent and the place looked quaint enough, but I couldn't get a seat at the bar, so I used their facilities and left. The place seemed friendly enough though, and a return trip is definitely necessary.
Horse Inn

200 Block of N. Marshall St, Lancaster
The Horse Inn is Lancaster's best kept secret due to a semi-hidden location and their intentional lack of pretension and glitz. Fine dining in a charming casual atmosphere. A great place to take out-of-town guests or just a night out with the family for a great meal. A bit pricey, but it's hard to leave disappointed. They've been serving their famously delicious Tips on Toast since the 1920s!
Hot Z Pizza

3001 Harrisburg Pike, Landisville
Located on the Harrisburg Pike, Hot Z screams DUI to me (maybe it's just me). It's dark, kinda grungy, had a pool table or two and a big horseshoe shaped bar. Typical watering hole with OK food. Not sure why this place gets so crowded, but it usually is. Perhaps they know something I don't.
House of Pasta

1110 Millersville Pike, Lancaster
Don't let it's name fool you. This is a dive bar true and thru. Frosty mugs of Lager for $1,50! And they have huge bullet mugs if you're really looking to throw somw back. In the summer they open up the ash-tray (sand box) out back. Typical dive bar with an atypical name.
Iron Hill Brewery & Resaurant

781 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster
Iron Hill is the latest big thing on the Lancaster bar scene. Located in the new sector of the F&M, Iron Hill offers an elegantly casual place for friends and family to meet, eat and enjoy some great, and truly fresh beer. There are a few Iron Hill's in the area, and none of them will likely disappoint in any way. They serve only their own beers, but offer a wide selection of liquors and wines. You gotta go for the sampler!
Jack's Family Tavern & Resaurant

15 S Prince St, Millersville
Beside's being a major Millersville University hang-out, Jack's is actually a damn nice bar for the rest of us as well. Friendly people, great bar service, and good meals at reasonable prices. There is even a nice tobacco shop within walking distance in case you forgot your smokes. All in all a nice little place to tip a few back.
Jethro's Restaurant & Bar

1st & Ruby St, Lancaster
Super quaint (yes small), but very charming little place with excellent beers on tap, high-quality cocktails, and fantastic bohemian food creations. Their catfish entree is out of this world, and you have never had a burger like theirs! Fine dining prices and presentations with a comfortable, down home feel.
Lancaster Brewing Company/Walnut Street Grille

302 N Plum St, Lancaster
LMB, as it is commonly referred, makes decent handmade beers and horrible french fries. Aside from that, this place just never seems to "do it" for me (which disappoints me terribly). I just can't get excited about this place no matter how much I want to. It's a tremendously neat building and everyone likes dreaming about swimming in those big copper kettles, but it comes off a bit cold and without good food to back it up, it tends to leave you wanting.
Lancaster Dispensing Co.

33 N Market St, Lancaster
The DipCo is the first place anyone ever goes in Lancaster and is the unofficial home of the local artsy-fartsies. Ironically, they tend to display fairly lack-luster (putting it nicely) local artwork. Good daily specials, Stoudt's Market Alley Amber (the only place to get this beautiful brunette), and a variety of good local music keeps patrons of this historic draught house coming back for more.
Longshots

2090 Lincoln Hwy E, Lancaster
Located inside of the OTW, this is actually a great bar. Service, by one of two older sweethearts and excellent food. If you can leave with your shirt on, you'll leave satisfied. The Brisket Sandwich is highly recommended. Likewise is the 2 in the 5th.
Lucky Dog Cafe

1942 Columbia Ave, Lancaster
Great all-around bar (with the exception of no games to play). Mostly friendly staff (I'm not naming names, but soemone may be past their prime), excellent food, and the usual suspects on tap. Great spot to watch a game, or just pop in for a quick bite to eat.
McCleary's Public House

130 W Front St, Marietta
McCleary's new owners have really spruced up this once tired spot. This is a great little place with lots of character and an awesome outdoor patio. Good food and a nice selection of imported beers and liquors. Friendly staff too, which is a much needed improvement over the last ownership. This place is a true gem and does a great job of transcending the small-town, Lancaster county feel without being pretentious.
Midway Hotel
3441 Columbia Ave

Another diner-like dive, offering decent food in a slightly unappealing atmosphere. Lot's of cool old Nascar memorabilia, and cheap beers. Bar seats about 8 people, but the bartender and his family are real nice. As for a hotel, I'm sure the Bates would find it quite cozy.
Molly's Pub

253 E Chestnut St, Lancaster
Molly's is a great place to drink a Guinness and enjoy a quality meal in a generally laid-back and friendly environment. Great for a date, or a quiet evening out with your partner. There is a contemporary Martini Bar upstairs along with a nice outdoor patio. The main dining room is a bit over-crowded, and the calamari is dreadful, but aside from that it's a nice place and a Lancaster City favorite.
Mosby's Pub

215 E Main St, Mt. Joy
If only Mosby's looked as cool inside as it does from the street. It's a friendly enough, all be it small bar, but it just doesn't have a lot of personality. I haven't had the pleasure of their food, but I hear decent things. Looks to me like it might be better place to go for dinner with your family than drinking with your friends.
Mountville Inn

61 E Main St, Mountville
Great place to drink with the guys. Pool tables, American darts, and cold beer. Not sure if they serve food, not sure I would eat it if they did.
The New Holland Pub

503 E Main St, New Holland
My wife found pieces of glass her their drink. The manager came over and offered to call an ambulance (out of regulation only), but still charged her for the drink! I've heard other horror stories as well. Too bad because they have good food in a nice atmosphere.
O'Halloran's Irish Pub & Eatery

764 High St, Lancaster
This place is like a lump of turquoise in a coal mine. It's no diamond, but they do serve great food and frosty mug beers at a reasonable price. The Charlie wings are some of the best in the County, and the ladies really like their Tomato Soup. If the bar looks too rough for you, then it probably is. Fear not, there are plenty of relatively safe seats in the dining room.
Paris Pub LLC

392 E Front St, Marietta
Paris, France... no way! Paris, TN... maybe. This place couldn't be any further from Paris, and gets my award for worst named bar in the county. However, if you are looking for cheap swill in a no frills environment, it may be the spot for you. I'm told the wings are good.
Parkview Hotel

25 North Broad St, Lititz
From the outside this place looks great. It's in a nice part of a nice little town. On the inside it feels more like Centralia. The historic tin ceilings and men's room trough are disguised by horrible paint and cheap redneck t-shirts. They don't serve any food, and they don't serve up hospitality either. This place falls into the "Damn Shame" category.
The Pressroom

26 W King St, Lancaster
Geared almost strictly towards the cigar smoking and scotch swirling gentlemen's club of Lancaster, the Pressroom also offers a nice upscale meal in a leather and brass bound environment. In the summer months you can even dine outside at beautiful Steinman Park.
Prudhomme's Lost Cajun Kitchen

50 Lancaster Ave, Columbia
Formerly the Rising Sun Hotel. Prudhomme's has tons of character and history. Live music weekly (Pat Panther is a local treasure!) and a comedy club (now just a few doors down). Good cajun-inspired food and good people for owners. A definite must-hit for visitors looking for a one-of-a-kind destination. Check out thier revised taps sporting a nice variety micros and seasonal brews.
Q's Duke on Liberty

1002 N Duke St, Lancaster
Very close to getting the worst name award. Not much else worth mentioning. UPDATE: Duke's recently caught a fire and sustained heavy damage. The owner was quoted as planning to rebuild.
Quality Inn

2363 Oregon Pike, Lancaster
The Quality Inn, has a decent little bar inside. It feels a little strange to walk into, but once you get past that you've got yourself a decent little bar that actually attracts a pretty good crowd. It's very quirky and the patrons aren't usually the friendliest, but they have pool tables and cold beer. Which is nice.
Quips Pub

457 New Holland Ave, Lancaster
What it lacks on the exterior, Quip's more than makes up for inside. Great food, one of the area's best beer selections, a friendly and attentive staff, and two English dartboards (always with a few patrons looking for a spirited match). Good for quiet meal or a night of heavy drinking. Quite possibly Lancaster's best bar!
Reflections Restaurant

1390 Oregon Rd, Leola
Reflections is even lamer than their name suggests. Bad service and horrible food. Sorry, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em. We haev heard that they are about to go through some changes (for the better, we hope), so if this place improves, please let us know.
Rock Hill Tavern

1684 Long Ln, Millersville
Home of the wok-fried cheesesteak (although, I recommend springing for the tips if at all possible). If you're fishing or just cruising the lower Conestoga, there's no better spot (or other spot really). This historic Tavern has a really cool copper bar, animated patrons and excellent food. Parking across the street and river access from there as well. Biker friendly.
Rookie's & Big Shugg's

30 Keller Ave, Lancaster
Located in a hotel and most popular with the Hip Hop crowd. Extremely loud with poor wings. I see no reason to return.
Roseville Tavern/Sip N Sup

1860 Oregon Pike, Lancaster
Formerly, "the smokiest little bar in town", the Rosey has recently had an overhaul. Generally a bit depressing, but one of the few stops around with three flavors of Yuengling on tap. Decent food, although prices seem a tad high. Still one of the better (if only) bars on the northeast quadrant. Overall, it's a good place to drown a few sorrows.
Scooter's Restaurant & Bar

921 Lititz Pike, Lititz
I've been to Scooter's a handful of times and still find it tough to write a review. Not particularly good or bad, just nothing distinctive. Decent wings and typical beers. The bar is a smaller horseshoe, but has plenty of overflow seating in separated areas. A good typical LanCo bar with decent food and atmosphere.
Shank's Tavern

36 S Waterford Ave, Marietta
Shank's in Marietta just may be the perfect bar. If you're down on the Susquehanna and need a place to cool off with a few good beers, Shank's is the spot. Always a friendly crowd and great homemade food specials. I highly recommend the Big Fats Burger. Always a great selection of beer, an American dart board, and there's a different food special every night. They are closed most Saturday's for private parties, so keep that in mind, or just give them a call first.
The Shamrock Cafe

312 W Walnut St, Lancaster
Good spot for cheap beer and if you like pissing in a trough (guys). They don't serve food, and always attract an interesting crowd. The owner is a former boxer (and an apparently successful one) judging by the pictures on the walls. So keep in line! Dark, dingy and delightful!
Stoudts Black Angus

2800 North Reading Rd, Adamstown
Stoudt's is well known for their great beers, but if you've never been to the Black Angus, you're missing out on the best ingredient. A charming, cozy pub with all of the premise-made micros a man could ask for. The food is more sophisticated than one would expect and is worth their slightly higher prices. The barkeeps waste enough beer to make a real beer fan cry. Luckily, they offer a wide variety of choices to drop your tears into.
Stubby's Bar & Grille

254 E Frederick St, Lancaster
The element of surprise is huge here. Stubby slings beers with a Sam Malone flavor in this stylish inn-town bar. Another good spot for watching a game, or playing games. Haven't tried their food yet.
Summy House Tavern
31 S Main St, Manheim
I've heard they re-opened recently after an unexplained hiatus. We'll get up there soon and get you a review. In the meantime, feel free to write us with any info.
Symposium Mediterranean Restaurant

125 S Centerville Rd, Lancaster
The Symposium is a Mediterranean/Greek restaurant with a flair for quality seafood. Equally as fishy is their knack for seating people and then not assigning servers to the table (this has happened on three consecutive visits). Funny too that the ever-strolling owner never seems to stop by during this time. Hmmmm? Luckily for them, the food is good enough to keep people returning. They also have a lively stage area and a busy bar area that caters to the older crowd.
Tantra
701 E Walnut St, Lancaster
Used to be the Franklin Tavern, then it was Tails and I wasn't allowed to go anymore. Now it's Tantra and I have no desire to.
The Tilted Kilt

112 East Main Street, Mt. Joy
Once easily overlooked, the Tilted Kilt has recently expanded to include a small dining room for those looking to escape the smokiness of the bar scene. The Kilt has an excellent assortment of domestic and across-the-pond libations, with fantastic food to boot! A generally diverse and friendly crowd only adds to the desire of this celtic Mt. Joy charmer. Great service as well!
Tobias S. Frogg

1766 Columbia Ave, Lancaster
Tobias Frogg has decent food, nice little patio in the summer, and lots of TVs for sports. Overall, a nice place to eat and drink with friends and family.
TJ Rockwell's

800 Mount Gretna Rd, Elizabethtown
TJ's boasts the biggest deck in the county. I wish I lived a little closer, but it's a bit far for a night out. Lunches there have been good and the World's Smallest Sundae is a nice touch.
Trio Bar & Grille

3707 Marietta Ave, Columbia
Trio used to be The Rugatino, which used to be the Olde Spring House. While it still seems to lack any true character, the latest incarnation is most certainly the best and provides the best food so far as well. Outstanding service in a clean, friendly environment. We're looking forward to going back once the deck opens.
Union Barrel Works

6 N. Reamstown Road, Reamstown
The Union Barrel Works is a charming little brew-house in a one-horse-town. If you blink you'll miss it (actually, if you look really hard you might miss it too). Despite the lack of signage, the big stainless vats let you know when you've made it. Once inside, clean country charm overwhelms your mental image of what a brew-pub typically looks like. It's a bit too bright and sterile, but their beers are all great and extremely drinkable (not your typical over-hopped, in-your-face micros). Their food is excellent and servers are warm and friendly. I highly recommend the portobello app. and the 6+1 sampler. Both are well worth the drive!
Union Station Grill

173 S 4th St, Columbia
Union Station is bringing classy back to Columbia. A little too nice for it's surroundings, but a great place to grab a few good beers and some great food. Not the easiest place to find either, and parking can be a betch, but it's worth the trouble. One of the owners also owns Cravings Deli in Lancaster, so you know you're getting some good grub!
The Wooden Nickel

Sorry, I've been sworn to secrecy.
The proud home of the WNFC is also Lancaster's best kept secret. This invitation only tavern hosts the best bar olympics around and the proprietor generally has a nice assortment of block cheeses, meat sticks and homemade pickles. The beers flow freely, the shots flood like water, and if they don't have your drink of choice, you can bring your own. Our What's Tappening? founder was technically even married in the place!
Valentino's Cafe

132 Rider Ave, Lancaster
One of the best little bars around, and a personal favorite! Cheap booze, free pretzels w/hot mustard and American darts. What more could you ask for? OK, how about excellent burgers and subs too? Always a friendly staff, and a handful of boisterous regulars. This place is like a Shamokin version of Cheers set in Lancaster. Not many other spots where you can get dollar drafts and a five dollar meal anymore.
Vics Wayside Inn

2645 Lincoln Hwy E, Ronks
Great little biker bar. Good food served by Vic himself, and with an attitude you would expect. These guys look tough (and likely are), but are good people providing a good place to park you ass for a spell. American darts, typical beers, and great decor.
Villa Nova

1310 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster
The Villa Nova is your typical roadside bar. They have a nice assortment of games to keep you occupied, a generally friendly crowd, and very good food for reasonable prices. There are always a few bikes parked out front, but it's definitely not a typical biker bar. Oh, and they have Buzztime play along television. Perfect for a friendly horseshoe shaped bar!
Villa Nova West

2833 Columbia Ave, Lancaster
Lots of TV's and apparently a dance club in the back. Lacks character in pretty much every way.
The Village

205 N Christian St, Lancaster
The Village is a great place to see cover bands or to get shot or stabbed. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, but judging by the crowds that pour in there - they don't need me to. Go check it out for yourself, but don't say I didn't warn you.
Yorgo's Lounge

66 North Queen St, Lancaster
A nice new addition to the downtown scene. They are only a few months old and still appear to be working out some kinks, but overall a nice place for a good Greek dinner and a few drinks. The lighting is a little too bright, they seem to be a bit understaffed and there is an awkward server's station in the back, but overall a good-looking bar with a nice vibe.
Your Place

2133 Lincoln Hwy E, Lancaster
Lousy wings and questionable characters, but overall a decent place to tip some back and shoot a few games of pool. They used to have excellent meatball subs back in the day. Not sure about now.
York County:
Banana Max

2650 Eastern Blvd, York
Banana Max is a strange place. It's set out by itself just of Market Street and it's sort of like a mini Fat Daddy's. The bar itself is quirky and doesn't leave much room for milling about. The whole layout kinda just makes everyone stare at one another from close distances whether they want to or not. Oh, and they charge a cover even when they only have a DJ. No thanks.
Barracuda's Seafood Bar

2256 Industrial Hwy, York
Take trip down Memory Lane to Barracuda's. While they lose points for being in a strip mall, they pick them back up by the fact that once you're inside you'd never know it. Located next to a fresh fish market they get the catch of the day into your belly as fast an anyone. This isn't a high class or high-dollar seafood joint, but it is a good little bar with a menu that deviates from the typical burger and wing joints.
Bumper Bob's Seafood House

1875 Old Trail Rd, Etters
What Bumper Bob's lacks in location, they make up for in taste and value. Home of the self-proclaimed World's Largest Seafood Platter, BB's has an extensive seafood menu and always gives you more than you pay for. I don't know if they have any taps, but they do offer a wide variety of bottled beer, including almost everything Troegs has to offer. You can't do much better in Etters.
Cobblestones

205 S George St, York
Not located in the best part of town, and with tons of pool tables, Cobblestone's tends to attract a lot of riff-raff. Lot's of beers on tap. lots of TV's and those play-along trivia games. I don't recall eating there, but a great place to hang out if you're in Downtown York.
Corner Stable

2573 S Queen St, York
No better place in South York to get smashed in the middle of the day than the Corner Stable. Ok, maybe there is, but I wouldn't know. What I do know is, that you can go to this place and get smashed in the middle of the day!
Embers Steakhouse & Seafood

100 Memory Ln, York
From the outside, it may be hard to imagine a decent little bar inside, but enter through the "Lounge" door and that's exactly what you've got. A nice little no-frills bar with attentive bartenders and better than average food. Despite the name I didn't buck up for a steak or seafood, but their $1.50 taco special treated me just fine.
Fat Daddy's Night Club & Bar

2510 E Market St, York
Fat Daddy's is your typical multi-bar, meat market. One look at their website, and you'll know all you need to know. They have a strict dress code to keep out thugs (even to the point of excluding "flat brim hats"), but judging by their photo page women can wear as little as they like. Go ahead, drink the irony.
First Capital Dispensing Company

57 N Pershing Ave, York
First Cap is probably the best of the Old City bars. It's got history, charm and good food. I'd like to say more, but on my last attempt they hadn't opened yet (4pm Sat.) despite their posted hours on the door.
The Hop/San Carlo's

333 Arsenal Rd, York
The Hop is probably best know for The Bar Under The Car as seen from Route 30. It's a great spot to sit outside on a nice summer day and tip a few back while listening to some good live music. Inside is a big 50's styled bar with cold beers and dancing for those of you looking to relive your glory days. Next door is San Carlo's Restaurant, home of the best Prime Rib in the state!
Jamie's Courtside

18 S Belmont St, York
Jamie's Courtside is a nice sports bar located right off of I-83. We had excellent wings and cheesesteaks there and it's as good of a place as any to watch a game. Not sure what it's like on a weekend night, but for a Saturday afternoon, it did us just fine.
Kelly's Inn

1906 N Sherman St, York
Nice spot specializing in seafood. If you park out back you can get a free tour of their kitchen on your way in. I strongly recommend parking out front.
Left Bank Restaurant & Bar

120 N George St, York
The Left Bank is delicious fine dining with a friendly and cozy corner bar feel. No matter what your fancy is, the LB should be able to tickle it proper. A real charmer and standout establishment for the White Rose City. Closes at 11pm.
The Paddock

3406 E Market St, York
The diner that eats like a bar. Stegmier on tap, and old cranky barmaids to sell it to you. Could be better, but certainly could be worse. Say hey to Simmons, he's the man!
Redrock Cafe

4550 Lincoln Hwy, York
Red built himself a nice little cantina here. Darts, pool and cheap domestic beer. If you don't like it, walk across the street to the TI.
Red Rose Restaurant & Lounge

5370 Lincoln Hwy, York
Big open place without any character. Food didn't look too hot either. One and done at this whistle stop. Does look like a nice venue for bands.
The Roadhouse

3691 E Market St, York
The Roadhouse is much more of a restaurant than a bar, but they do have a nice little bar and their food looked excellent. Very cozy atmosphere with a friendly staff (sadly Patrick Swayze was not one of them). The food looked great, and I've heard nothing but good things. I'll be heading back for dinner asap.
Roosevelt Tavern

50 North Penn St, York
The Roosevelt Tavern has an inviting atmosphere, complete with fireplace, coat check, and cozy non-smoking bar. It's a bit of a surprise given the surrounding neighborhood. Service and food prep seems a bit inconsistent, but overall one can expect an excellent meal - at typical fine-dining prices. The warm honey-bacon dressing makes a happy salad.
Thirsty's Quick Stop

2914 E Market St, York
As the name implies, this is not a bar, but it is a good place to refuel with some good grub and great beer. Excellent selection of take-out beer that can be purchased by the single, six or twelve.
Tourist Inn

671 W Market St, York
The TI is an unbeatable stop for cold beer and cheap, hot food. All their sandwiches are very good, and you gotta go for the Old Bay fries! Pool tables, American Darts and Biker friendly, Sure their jukebox tends to be WAY too loud, but does your buddy really have anything that good to say anyway?
Waterway Bar & Grill

220 W. Philadelphia St, York
The Waterway is named for its location on the infamous Codorus Creek. Sadly this is another Gingerbread Man that has gone away. It's a nice place and a good location, but lacks any real charm. That being said, they do have a nice deck and a smaller second floor for bands. A noticeable number of patrons were opting for the happy hour "small pitcher" of mixed drinks for $5. Food was just OK, but the staff was friendly. Check out their website, it pretty much tells the tale.
White Rose Bar & Grill

48 N Beaver St, York
Depending on which door you enter, you will see one of the two very different sides of the White Rose Bar & Grill. We chose the "smoking lounge" which led to a good little bar playing host to some extremely interesting characters (some more charming than others, some much drunker than others, and some much more intrusive than others). Nice little leather sofa lounge area for watching the big game and fresh beer on tap. The other side is non-smoking and more of an upscale/casual type of bar. The White Rose offers a little something for everyone.
Dauphin County:
Appalachian Brewing Co.

50 N Cameron St, Harrisburg
ABC is a warehouse-style brew-pub that makes outstanding beers and sets standards for what an establishment like this should be. Nice clean atmosphere with a cool little upstairs bar for added capacity. A definite asset to the community and to taste buds everywhere!
Champions
300 2nd St, Highspire, PA
Haven't been in since they supposedly remodeled the place. I hear good things.
Coyote Hardware Bar

235 N. Second St.
If you are unaware of the concept of the "Coyote Ugly" bars, it's basiclly this: overbold female bartenders go to extravagant lengths to get a bunch of meatheads to buy over-priced booze. Silly antics like camel-toe contests and vibrator races add to the allure.
Duke's Bar & Grille

1715 E Chocolate Ave, Hershey
You won't walk away hungry at either Duke's location, and they always have a good assortment of beer. The Hershey location does a good job of maintaining the old Gingerbread Man feel. Unfortunately, the service doesn't always match the charm of the atmosphere.
Duke's Riverside Bar & Grille

313 S Front St, Wormleysburg
You won't walk away hungry at either Duke's location, and they always have a good assortment of beer. The riverside deck is perfect after a long day on the water. Can get a little packed on summer weekends.
Fire Alley
1144 Cocoa Ave, Hershey

Located next to The Cocoplex Cinema, Fire Alley is a good stop before checking out the next big block buster. Atmosphere is pretty interesting as they attempted to recreate a big-city street scene. Unfortunately, the food is a little sub-par. Especially, given the reputation of their predecessor,The Firehouse Restaurant in Harrisburg.
Firehouse Restaurant & Bar
606 N 2nd St, Harrisburg

The Firehouse has long been the standard of a quality establishment in downtown Harrisburg. Full of charm, a great 2nd Street location, and outstanding food. Not much more need be said.
Gilligan's Bar & Grill
987 Eisenhower Blvd & 10 S. Houcks Rd, Harrisburg

Gilligan's offers two locations that are sure to wet your proverbial whistle. While they may not look like much from the outside (at least not the Eisenhower Blvd location), they certainly offer plenty of partying options once inside. Pool tables, TVs galore and a variety of hang-out spots - Gilligan's ensures a party spot no matter what your crowd. Food is typical for a bar of this type, where drinks are most definitely the focus.
The Gingerbread Man

312 Market St, Harrisburg
If you can still find a real Gingerbread Man, go in and absorb as much of the character and charms as you can. Ever since the original owners split them up they are dying faster than a minnow in the sun. At one time they graced nearly every town in the region, now there is less than a handful. Good food, great atmosphere, and a place that every Pennsylvanian should say they've been.
Mars Lounge

400 N 2nd St, Harrisburg
Utterly pretentious, swanky, loud, dark, yet comfy and cozy. Everything you would expect from one of Harrisburg's more elite clubs, except the large crowd.
McGrath's Pub

202 Locust St, Harrisburg
What may appear as your typical American-Irish Pub, is actually an outstanding example of an American-Irish pub. Fantastic food, great service and all the beers and liquor one would hope for. It found a way to bring soem real world charm and character to what can be a somewhat artificial 2nd Street scene.
Molly Brannigans

2nd & Walnut St, Harrisburg
Molly Brannigans is a typical Irish-American Pub with all of the usual Irishy suspects on tap. When this place is quiet, it's just way too open and empty feeling. However, on a weekend that is merely wishful thinking as it turns into more of a dance club. Great downtown location and very good food. Big props out to the Boxtys! And the burgers are pretty good too.
Nick's 114 Cafe

114 Bridge St, New Cumberland
This place gets absolutely packed on weekend nights. It may look like Alice's Diner, but it would be better suited to Alice Cooper once the sun goes down. Haven't been there in a long time, but from what I remember, it can get pretty wild.
Pavone's/Ruby's Red Garter Saloon

300 S Hershey Rd, Harrisburg
Pavone's is located in what used to be a one-room school house and has the character and charm to prove it. The dining room is quiant and quiet, the service is excellent and the wide variety of food is all very good. Ruby's Saloon is dark, comfortable and exactly what we think of when we think of a bar. Overall, a great little neighborhood spot that will do doubt continue on for a long, long time.
The Quarter

321 N 2nd St, Harrisburg
The Quarter is a relatively large, New Orleans inspired restaurant on the 2nd Street strip. Best on nice days when they can really open the place up to the streets and give you that big city feeling. The food looked and smelled pretty good, but overall it seems like more of a place to party than sit down and eat.
Shady McGrady's

204 Verbeke St, Harrisburg
Unlike the name, this place is not all that Irishy. It is however, fairly shady. That's necessarily a bad thing. It's a welcome respite from the trendy 2nd street club scene.
Stadium Club Sports Tavern

61 2nd St, Highspire
Like the name suggests, this place is a good spot to watch a game. I can't remember much else. At the time I remember having a tough time differentiating this place and Champions.
Stoney Creek Inn

150 Erie St, Dauphin
If you're fishing Stony or Clark's Creeks, you won't find a better place to refill than this. Very good food, good beer and a pool table. Nice deck overlooking the Stony too. Just avoid the temptation of the Ranch Fries.
The Wharf Bar & Grill

6852 Derry St, Harrisburg
This Derry Street dive has it all. Good seafood (plus the usual bar food), good beer and a good atmosphere. You pretty much can't go wrong here. I've been going here since I was a kid, and can't remember ever leaving disappointed.
